Apple opens manufacturing academy in Detroit
DETROIT, MI - Apple has opened its new Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, offering free programming designed to support American manufacturers and innovators. The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s manufacturing sector by giving small and medium-sized businesses access to training in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation. By establishing the academy in Detroit, Apple is signaling both its continued investment in American industry and the importance of the Midwest as a hub for manufacturing and innovation.
The academy, created in partnership with Michigan State University, is part of Apple’s broader pledge to spend more than $500 billion in the United States over the next four years. Based in Detroit, the facility is focused on helping small and medium-sized businesses transition to advanced manufacturing techniques, particularly through the use of artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing.
“We’re thrilled to welcome companies from across the country to the Apple Manufacturing Academy starting this month,” said Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer, in a statement. “Apple works with suppliers in all 50 states because we know advanced manufacturing is vital to American innovation and leadership. With this new programming, we’re thrilled to help even more businesses implement smart manufacturing so they can unlock amazing opportunities for their companies and our country.”
Training for the Future of Manufacturing
The first workshops began August 19, led by Apple experts. Sessions included:
Machine learning and deep learning in manufacturing.
Automation in product manufacturing.
Leveraging manufacturing data to improve product quality.
Applying digital technologies to enhance operations.
The academy is also offering consulting services from Apple engineers, available both virtually and in person. Later this year, Apple plans to expand with virtual programming, including a skills development curriculum in areas such as project management and manufacturing process optimization.
A Midwest Anchor for National Investment
The choice of Detroit reflects the city’s ongoing role in American industry. By placing the Manufacturing Academy in Michigan, Apple aims to build on the Midwest’s legacy of manufacturing while preparing local and national businesses for a future shaped by AI-driven production.
